Last night's Winter Middle School Band Concert was an amazing night of live music played by the talented ensembles here at Ashbrook. If you weren't able to attend, you missed out on an amazing experience. Collegium Musicum's performance of Aaron Copland's Fanfare for the Common Man was utterly marvelous, and the Concert Band's performance of Leo Arnaud's Olympic Fanfare was triumphantly rendered.
I'll admit to a hint of bias here: I was most delighted by the performances by Beginning Band--Room 152's very own fifth graders. Their renditions of Erie Canal Capers, Bingo, the theme from Brahms' Symphony No. 1, Ming Court, and Jingle Bells had me positively beaming! They played as an ensemble, not just as a collection of individuals, which is remarkable when you realize that they've only been playing their instruments for about three months.
I'm so very pleased that all the work they've put in over the last months paid off in such a spectacular way. They sparkle as individuals, but when they're together, they shine with the force of the sun.
Well done, Room 152!
